Franklin Delano Candage, 82, of the Sixteen Acres Section of Springfield, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his family. Franklin was born in Vinalhaven, Maine on September 19, 1934, the son of the late William and Ruth (Briggs) Candage. Franklin was educated in the Springfield School System. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed for many years for the Sullivan Paper Company in West Springfield and retired in 1996. Franklin enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid bike rider, hiker and he loved spending time near the ocean. He also enjoyed visits to Sturbridge Village. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by four brothers Cyrus, Roger, Raymond and Douglas. He is survived by his two devoted children Paul Candage of Harwich, MA and Kelli Liu and her husband Montgomery of Henderson, NV., and his two cherished grandchildren Samuel and Katherine and his former wife Sheila (Isham) Somers of Ludlow. He also leaves his brother Dana Candage and his wife Barbara of Springfield and a sister Ellen Carter of Surrey, ME. Family and friends will honor and remember Franklin on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 12:45p.m – 2:45p.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA 01118, Followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3p.m. at the funeral home.
