Helen Sophia (Carlson) Giddings, 93, of Cromwell, CT, and formerly of Springfield, MA, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Pilgrim Manor at Covenant Village of Cromwell, surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born in Everett, MA July 22, 1923, the daughter of the late David A. and Maria (Ericsson) Carlson. She grew up in Worcester, MA, graduated from high school there after which she was employed by Norton Company. In 1946 she married Frank Giddings, moved to Springfield, and lovingly dedicated herself to raising her children.  She later returned to work at INA and Monarch Life Insurance until her retirement. For many years she was a faithful member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield, serving the church community in Covenant Women, Missionary Sewing, and in her later years the Senior Ministry outreach.  She is survived by two devoted children, David M. Giddings and his wife Susan of Sugar Land, TX, and Donna M. Giddings and her husband James P. Bolan of Madison, CT; and she leaves two grandchildren, Daniel and his wife Rebecca, and Matthew and his wife Julia as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sister Doris E. Pearson. Family and friends will gather on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a service beginning at 12 noon at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA 01118. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Covenant Village of Cromwell.
