Ingeburg Helene (Kutzner) Mahlo of East Longmeadow, 96, passed away peacefully in her treasured home on May 19, in the love and care of her family, friends and neighbors. Born in Breslau, Germany on April 8, 1921, to Frieda (Kube) and Wilhelm Kutzner, Inge moved to Berlin, Germany with her parents at the age of eight. After WWII Inge became the executive secretary to the Burgermeister of Berlin/Friedrichshain. In 1948 she married Edwin Kurt Mahlo, the love of her life. They were married for 57 years, prior to Ed’s death in 2005. In 1954, Inge and daughter Angelika immigrated to Texas to join Ed, who had come to the USA one year earlier for employment as a chemical engineer, and to seek a better future than could be offered them in Germany at the time. Inge and her family have always been grateful for the welcoming spirit and hospitality of the Texan people, and to the United States for giving them the precious chance to grow, learn, and achieve the "American Dream". Five years after giving birth to daughter Pearl, Inge and her family moved to Massachusetts in 1960 to continue in her role as a devoted wife and mother, and become a loving grandmother to five grandchildren. An excellent German cook and baker, she prided herself in carrying forward many German traditions, including festive holiday celebrations and Wednesday night family dinners. She and Ed enjoyed entertaining and travelling, having the opportunity to explore much of Canada, Mexico and Europe, and especially Germany to visit with friends and relatives. Inge was also proud of being able to travel with both her children and grandchildren. She supported numerous non-profits, including the Academy of Music and other cultural organizations, and became a long-time volunteer for Shriners Hospitals for Children, which gave her great joy and satisfaction. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in East Longmeadow for which she also volunteered. Inge was fortunate to live a long, healthy life that allowed her to know nine great-grandchildren. Inge leaves two daughters, Angelika (Mahlo) Melien and her partner David Giza of Hampden and Pearl (Mahlo) Keinath and her husband Albert Keinath of Wilbraham, grandchildren Kurt Melien and his wife Ginger of Las Vegas, NV, Krista Sack and her husband Ethan of Southborough, MA, Albert Keinath and his wife Andrea of Sunnyvale, CA, Brendon Keinath and his wife Sarah of Houston, TX, Christopher Keinath and his wife Katie of Johnson City, TN,  as well as great-grandchildren Julia, William, Peyton, Madeline, Bradley, Jonathan, Henry, Matilda and  Davis. She also leaves sister-in-law Kaethe Meyer and her family in Berlin, Germany. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, at 11am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 181 Elm St., East Longmeadow, MA, with a burial to follow at Baptist Village cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield.
