Mary B. (Noonan) Ryan, 97, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died late Tuesday evening, April 18, 2017, with her loving family at her side, at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. She was born and educated in Springfield, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Donahue) Noonan. Mary was the devoted wife of the late James Patrick Ryan who died in November of 1976 and leaves four loving children: Mary, James P. Ryan and his wife Jane of Town & Country, MO, Ellen J. McManus and her husband John of Attleboro, MA, and Edward J. Ryan and his wife Christine of Colchester, VT; six grandchildren: James P. Ryan and his wife Catherine of Medford, MA, Andrew Ryan of Taiwan, John McManus and his wife Dr. Shilpa McManus of Westwood, MA, Ryan McManus and his wife Katie of Scituate, MA, Kevin Ryan and his wife Shawnna of Bozeman, MT and Elizabeth Cassella and her husband John of Castleton, VT; ten great-grandchildren: Grace and Fiona Ryan, Caroline, Kevin, Maeve, and Brendan McManus, Rohan, Mira, and Leela McManus, and Caroline Cassella; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her four brothers: Edward, Timothy, John and William Noonan. Her family will remember her as a very special woman and caregiver whose priority was her family first. Mary enjoyed gardening and landscaping. She was a swimming teacher for many years at Holy Name pool and later in her backyard swimming pool. A private Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 1900 Allen Street, with Rites of Committal and burial to conclude in the Ryan family lot in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Rd., both in Springfield. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in Mary’s memory may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
