Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert F. Brunette

July 30, 1934 ~ September 29, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Robert (Bob) Francis Brunette, son of the late Francois P. (Frank) and Mildred Fisk Brunette, died Friday, September 29, at the age of 83. Born in Springfield, Bob was a proud graduate of Commerce High School and then went on to enlist in the United States Air Force, serving in Japan. At Westover AFB, he met and married Meredith FitzGerald.  And just this September, the two celebrated their 60th anniversary! They have six children, Eric (Amy) of East Longmeadow, Douglas (Jennifer) of Holyoke, Stephen (Christina) and Thomas (Erica) of Longmeadow, Robert (Suzanne) of Highland Village, Texas, and Elizabeth (John) Montigny of Somerset, MA. Bob earned a degree from American International College and was a loyal employee, as a controller, for Combustion Engineering.  He worked hard to provide for his family, and his children remember his gentle nature, good humor and timeless catch phrases.  Bob was dedicated to attending his children’s games and events, and contributing his time to coaching.  He modeled a good work ethic, positivity, and the character to do what is right. In retirement, Bob happily settled into his role as “Papa.” His eighteen grandchildren fondly remember Papa for his wide smile, jolly voice, and fascination with their latest endeavors.  His grandchildren brought him joy, and they delighted in Papa’s good cheer.  Bob continued to serve on his long-standing Commerce High Reunion Committee, Class of 1952, and he enjoyed his quarterly lunches with the committee.  More recently, and inspired by Meredith’s years of dedication, Bob showed it’s never too late to follow your heart.  He became a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Longmeadow, and looked forward to working with the “counters” each week, as well as being a part of other parish activities and devotions.  Bob’s healthy and happy family is his legacy, and they are proud to honor him. Family and friends will meet directly at church.  A Liturgy of Christian Burial will on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 9:30a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 519 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, MA, 01106. Burial and military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 4-7p.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA 01118.
