Robert L. “Bob” O’Neil, 90, a resident of Springfield, died early Saturday morning, August 12, 2017 at Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing, with his loving family by his side. He was born and educated in North Attleboro, MA a son of the late T. Edward and Ruth (Murphy) O’Neil and was a graduate of North Attleborough High School Class of 1945. Bob entered the Navy upon his graduation from high school where he was assigned to the cruiser USS Los Angeles during the Second World War.  He was a proud plank owner and the recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty he returned to civilian life where he became employed as a store manager with the former First National Grocery Store for thirty years and later retired in the same capacity as a manager with the Cumberland Farms Stores. Bob was an avid sports fan who rooted for the Boston Red Sox as well as the New England Patriots. He was the devoted husband of the late Eileen C. (McGee) O’Neil who died August 23, 2016 and leaves his loving son, William J. O’Neil and his partner Karen O’Connor of East Longmeadow; two grandchildren, Conor E. O’Neil and his fiancée Kelly Williams of Philadelphia, PA and Kelly L. O’Neil and her fiancé Robert Wilson of Denver, CO; a brother, Paul W. O’Neil of South Windsor, CT; a sister, Virginia M. Fisher of Rehoboth, MA; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his siblings, Eleanor Curtis, and Edward P. O’Neil.  His funeral will be held on Thursday, August 17th at 10:45 AM from the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:30 AM in Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson Street, both in Springfield, with Rites of Committal and Military Honors to conclude at 1:00 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., in Agawam. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday morning prior to the Mass from 9:30 – 10:45 AM.
