Alayne M. “Laney” (Craven) Anthony, 79, of Springfield passed away suddenly on April 4, 2020 from Covid-19. She joins her beloved son Robert “Bobby” who died in 1976 at the age of 12 from cancer. In 1975 she was blessed with beautiful twins, Michael and Tracy. They brought joy and happiness to the entire family. Laney was a compassionate, brave and courageous mother who loved her children unconditionally and did everything she could to raise and nurture them into the people they have become. She was especially proud of her oldest son Mark, a Deputy Police Chief (ret.) in Springfield, her daughter Tracy, a Producer for MSNBC and her son Michael, a Business Unit Leader for the Trane Corporation. Laney was an avid reader and collector of Snowbabies and Hummels. Her greatest joys later in life were traveling with her husband “Freddy” to see her grandchildren in New Jersey, Florida and Southampton, MA. Laney never missed an opportunity to send a card and make a call to her family and friends memorializing every important event in their lives. She kept herself busy working early on at MassMutual and the Meadows Banquet Hall. She did residential cleaning and served the City of Springfield as a crossing guard for over a decade. Laney also served on the Board of Directors for Park East Townhouses. She was born in Springfield in 1940 and was the daughter of the late Albert and Doris (Bertrand) Craven. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Robert “Bobby” Anthony and brothers Albert and Richard Craven and sisters Joy Westberg and Dorene Fillion. Laney is survived by her beloved husband Frederick Anthony of Springfield and her three devoted children, Mark Anthony and his wife Wendy of Southampton, MA, Michael Anthony and his wife Christina of Odessa, FL, and Tracy Mitchell and her husband Jamie of Glen Rock, NJ. She leaves her cherished grandchildren Matthew, Samuell and Maia Alayne Anthony, Colin and Lindley Mitchell, Jake and Luke Anthony. The family is eternally grateful for the care and compassion that her daughter-in-law Wendy and her team at Mercy Medical Center provided to Laney in her time of need. In her final hours Wendy and the nursing team were instrumental in making it possible for the family to say our final goodbyes. A memorial service and burial will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Jimmy Fund.
