Tribute

Alexander P. Taft, 87, of Springfield, passed away on April 5, 2024 at Mercy Medical Center. Alexander was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on December 6, 1936, the son of the late Phillip and Willye (Tennis) Taft. He attended the Monson School System. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Construction Service Inc, in Wilbraham and retired after 40 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved wife Mary T. (Walsh) Taft, two daughters Jacqueline Taft and Mary Walsh and a son Frederick Andersen and three brothers Edwin, Robert and Phillip Taft and two sisters Lillian Peck and Jacqueline Taft. He is survived by his three children Susan A. Cooter and her husband Garry of Springfield, Beatrice Goodrow and her husband Donald of Springfield and Thomas J. Andersen and his wife Patricia of Berlin, CT, a brother William H. Taft of Hampden, and he leaves nine grandchildren Danielle, Christine, Jennifer, Mary, Alexander, Christopher, Jesse, John and Tracy, as well as several great-grandchildren and he leaves many nieces and nephews from both the Taft and Walsh families. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 12noon-2p.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA, 01118. Burial and military honors will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 10a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA.
