Alice Rita Martin

Alice R. (Theres) Martin, of Clearwater, FL., and formerly of Springfield, MA., passed away on July 15, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on April 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles and Amelia (Propas) Theres.  She lived on White Street in Springfield, for over 35 years and Ludlow for over 15 years. Alice was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Springfield. Alice graduated from Cathedral High School. From there, she went on to study Cosmetology at Burreby-Rose Beauty Academy, working professionally at Forbes & Wallace; before opening “Dolly’s Beauty Salon” in her home in Springfield’s North End. Alice was a member of the Padre Pios prayer group for over 30 years and the Ludlow Senior Center. She loved going to the casino with her many friends and goddaughter. Music played an important part of her life and many were charmed by her lovely singing voice. She collected many special people, through her loving friendships, touching their hearts and lives, keeping them for a lifetime.  Alice was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, James M. Martin, Sr. of 55 years; her son James “Jimmy” Martin, Jr.; a brother Charles “Eddie” Theres; and three sisters Joan Vrahnos, Pauline Beeler, and Bessie Asselin.  Alice is survived by her devoted son, David Martin and his wife, Victoria of Clearwater, FL.; her brother, James Theres of Springfield; her three beautiful grandchildren, Julia, David II, and William Martin; her goddaughter and niece, Charlene Martins and her husband, Chuck of Ludlow; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martin’s funeral will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 11:30 A.M. from the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, Springfield at 12:30 P.M. with burial to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, all in Springfield.
