Tribute

Bernard Edmund Best, 84, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died early Monday morning, September 19, 2022 at Heritage Hall South in Agawam. He was born and educated in Springfield, and raised by his late Aunt Phyllis (Best) Wells. Bernard was employed for many years as a custodian at Baystate Medical Center from which he retired in early 2000. He was previously employed at the former Jaycox and Friendly Restaurants located on Sumner Avenue. Bernard was also an active member of Wesleyan Church for many years and former member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Springfield. He leaves his twin sister, Bernadette R. Stoltz of Holyoke; a very close friend; Mary Kober of Springfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by nine siblings. Bernard’s family would like to thank all of the staff and nurses at Heritage Hall South for the exceptional care that they provided over the past year. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 27th at 11:00 AM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield with burial to follow at Springfield Street Cemetery in Feeding Hills. An hour of visitation will precede his funeral on Tuesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.
