William “Bill” G. Roberts, 72, of Springfield passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018. He was born in Springfield on September 6, 1945 to the late Herbert E. and Elsie J. (Oppel) Roberts. Bill was a teacher at Forest Park Middle School for most of his career. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Yankees, and classic cars. Bill also enjoyed visiting Newport and the Rhode Island shore. He loved his family above anything else and cherished watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. Outside of time spent with his family, Bill “felt at his best” while playing baseball for Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. He leaves his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn (Orlandi) Roberts; his adored children, Lou Roberts and his wife Sue of Holden, MA, and Christina Roberts and her husband Jon Burnham of Auburn, MA; his cherished grandchildren, Justin, Benjamin, and Emmelyn Roberts and Samantha Burnham; his two sisters, Marcia Abbe of Springfield and Marilyn Gounaris of Wilmington, MA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services for Bill will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 starting at 8:30am at Byron Keenan Funeral Home, 1858 Allen St, Springfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Springfield. Rites of Committal will conclude at Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 5-7pm.
