Tribute

Carol E (Ottoson) Shank, 76, passed away after a brief illness on November 5th 2019 at Baystate Medical Center.  She was born and educated in Springfield, on March 2, 1943 a daughter of the late Nils Paul Ottoson and Eivor Marie (Haglund) Ottoson and graduated from Commence High School and Bay Path Jr College. A life-long resident of East Longmeadow, Carol retired from the Town of East Longmeadow and was very active in her church, St Paul Lutheran for over 50 yrs. Carol also served on the East Longmeadow 4th July Parade Committee for over 20 years and volunteered at the Storrowtown Village Eastern States Exposition for the last 25 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and trips with the Hampden Senior Center. Carol was pre-deceased by her grandchildren, Patrick, Ethan and Ava and leaves two loving children, Jeff M. Shank and his wife Amy of Buzzards Bay; and Kristin E. Kane of West Hartford; her brother, Larry Ottoson and his wife Anne Marie of East Longmeadow; two cherished grandsons, Tyler and Hayden Shank; three nephews Eric, Craig and Paul Ottoson. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday evening, November 12th from 4-6 PM at Byron Keenan Funeral Home, 1858 Allen St, Springfield, MA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carol’s life. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be directed to the American Heart Assoc., 300 5th Ave., Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451-8750.
