Chester John “Chet” Malon, 77, of Hampden, formerly of Springfield, died early Monday afternoon, May 7, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born and educated in Springfield, a son of the late Konstanty and Stefania (Balon) Malon. Chet was employed for over twenty years as an auditor and system analyst in the banking industry working for both the former Bay Bank and Bank of New England. More recently he was employed with the City of Springfield School Department as a custodian at the Science & Technology School for fifteen years prior to his retirement in 2010. Some of Chet’s favorite pastimes included cooking, fishing, painting, sketching, vacationing with family and friends, and more recently travelling and an occasional cruise. He was the devoted husband of fifty years to Carol J. (Dowd) Malon of Hampden; and leaves three loving daughters, Sheila Jacobs and her husband Jonathan of Menominie, WI, Krystyna Sullivan and her husband Matthew of Hampden, and Katherine Turner and her husband Stephen of Thomaston, CT; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Sarah, John, Owen and Joseph; his brother Henry Malon and his wife Patricia of Middletown, CT; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents, Chet was predeceased by his siblings, Antoinette Malon, Jean Murphy, Irene Gintowt, and Edward Malon. His funeral will begin on Monday morning, May 14th at 9:30 AM from the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., Springfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 25 Parker St., in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield. Burial will conclude in the Malon family lot in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery St., Chicopee. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday evening, May 13th from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
