Tribute

Christine (Hensley) Gotta, 91, a resident of Springfield for most of her life, was called to Heaven early Friday morning, September 4, 2020 in the comfort of her home, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Waterfall, Virginia, a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Irene (Payne) Hensley. She was employed in the food catering industry for many years with the former State Catering Business in Springfield, as well as having her own business Chris’s Cookies & Crafts from her home. She was an active communicant of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church of Springfield. Christine was also a member of the Ludlow Elk’s Women’s Auxiliary, and as a pastime enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and knitting newborn caps for the neo-natal department of Baystate Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent Ernest Gotta who died in April of 2014 and leaves a son, Joseph Gotta and his wife Eileen of Ludlow; two daughters, Christine Nietupski and her husband Stanley of Chicopee, and Sheila Boisjolie and her husband Thomas of Feeding Hills; her sister Mamie Russell of Manassas, VA. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her seven grandchildren, Nathan and Josh Nietupski, Kevin, Phil and Eric Gotta, Tom Boisjolie, Jr. and Stacy Lenk; nine great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her brothers, Luther, William, Richard and Harry; and her sisters, Pauline and Alice. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 10th at 8:30 AM from the Byron Keenan Funeral Home, 1858 Allen St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, 51 Rosewell St., with Rites of Committal to conclude at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State St., all in Springfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM. In regards to Covid-19 all guests will be required to social distance and wear a mask per the Governor’s guidelines. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Christine’s name may be directed to EWTN or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
