David M. McGuill, 75 of Sturbridge, formerly of Hampden, passed away early Friday morning, August 2, 2019 at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield, the son of the late Owen and Madelyn (Sullivan) McGuill. David graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School class of 1963, Northampton Commercial College and Western New England College. Throughout his high school and college years he was an outstanding athlete who held many titles, excelling in soccer, basketball and track and field. He proudly served his country in the US Army, and was a decorated Vietnam veteran. David spent his entire career in the insurance industry specializing in Bonding and was a well-respected mentor to many. He was the owner of Buckley Bridge Insurance agency in Windsor Locks, CT for many years before retirement; however, continued serving some special accounts with long- term relationships after retiring. David was a loving and kind-hearted gentleman with a strong “can do” spirit. He was an avid New England sports fan, enjoyed family gatherings, music, dancing, boating, fishing and taking long rides exploring where any secondary road would lead to. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Sandra McGuill with whom he enjoyed every day at their home on the lake. David leaves his cherished children and grandchildren, David R. McGuill and his son David, Juliane McGuill Brayton, her husband Jeffrey and their sons Nash and Race; stepchildren, Pamela Clark and daughter Adeline, Robert Rogers and Christina Mack and their son Tyler, Brad Clark and his daughter Riya; his brothers, Owen McGuill and wife Sheila, Roy McGuill and wife Nancy; his sisters, Donna Nauman and husband David, Joyce Wiley and husband Philip; as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 8th at St. Mary’s Church, 27 Somers Rd., Hampden, at 11:15 AM with a private burial and Military Honors at Mass Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, contributions in David’s memory may be directed to the DAV, PO Box 96262, Washington, DC, 20090-6262. The Byron Keenan Funeral Home, 1858 Allen St., Springfield is honored to be handling his arrangements.
