Donald K. Burd

Donald K. Burd, 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 20, 2020 in East Longmeadow.  Born December 15, 1929 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Francis W. and Mima M. (Jones) Burd. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School and attended AIC.  He served in the US Army in Korea.  After his discharge, he joined his father’s business as a machinist at Burd Manufacturing Co., Inc., retiring 50 year later as its President. Don and his wife traveled worldwide, pursuing his hobby of nature photography.  His photos won awards internationally through the Photographic Society of America.  His two trips to Antarctica were his favorites.  He was an active member of several local photography groups and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Springfield. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Ruth E. Lawson.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emily “Del” Burd and his children Gary S. Burd (Grace) of Kirkland, Washington  and Randall S. Burd (Angela) of Potomac, Maryland and grandchildren Andrew, Hannah, Colton, Caroline, and Henry.
