Dorothy Doris (Dargie) Messier, 96, a longtime resident of Hampden, died early Saturday afternoon, November 2, 2019 in the comfort of her home with her loving daughter at her side. She was born in Adams, MA a daughter of the late Henri and Eva (Royal) Dargie and was a graduate of Adams High School Class of 1941. Dorothy continued her education receiving her BS degree from North Adams State College and for many years was a substitute teacher in the Hampden School system. She previously was employed as a dietician at the former Mary Lyon Nursing Home and as a senior aide at the Wilbraham Senior Center. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bingo and socializing with the numerous friends she had met over the years of playing. She was the devoted wife and best friend of the late William E. Messier who died in 1987 and leaves her loving daughter, Paula L. Messier with whom she shared her home in Hampden; two sisters-in-law, Helen and Joan Dargie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her five brothers, George, Henry, Francis, Robert and Arthur Dargie; and her sister, Rita Dupee. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit from 11:00 AM – 12:00 noon on Monday, November 11th at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, followed by Memorial Service beginning at 12:00 noon. Burial will be private in Old Cemetery in Hampden.
