Douglas C. Coombs, 66, of Wilbraham passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, with his family by his side. Born in Amsterdam, NY he was the son of Alexander and the late Lucy (Lee) Coombs. Doug worked as a realtor for over 30 years; the last 16 of which he spent at Coldwell Banker. Upon graduating college, Doug bought a one-way ticket to Europe with just $150 in his pocket. He carried the experiences he gathered over his years abroad and the same sense of resourcefulness with him for the duration of his life. Well-known for his rapier wit and commitment to telling good stories, Doug could often be found with a ready smile and a knowing wink. Doug’s admirable dedication to his family and strength of character will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Along with his father, Doug leaves his loving wife of 30 years, Jean Coombs; his three children, Lauren Coombs of NY, Alex Coombs of Swansea, and James Coombs of Springfield; and his three sisters, Sharon, Linda, and Trish Coombs all of ME. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019, at 11am at the Wilbraham United Church, 500 Main St, Wilbraham, where Doug and Jean were married. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104. All services have been entrusted to Byron Keenan Funeral Home.
