Tribute

Dr. Angelo L. Bilionis, 86, of East Longmeadow, MA and Jupiter, FL and formerly of Longmeadow, MA, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019, unexpectedly at Baystate Hospital. He was born in Fitchburg, MA., on August 3, 1933, the son of the late Louis and Bessie (Mouroutsos) Bilionis. Dr. Bilionis proudly served our country in the United States Army Reserves and achieved the rank of Captain. He was a gentleman known and loved for his warmth, kindness, generous nature and sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother, Charles Bilionis of Fitchburg, MA. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-two years Nona (Redding) Bilionis of East Longmeadow, MA and Jupiter, FL; two devoted children Kristin Bilionis of Charlestown, MA., and Gregory Bilionis of Stamford, CT; a sister Helen Bilionis Koules of Chelmsford, MA; sister-in-law Angela Bilionis of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law Karen Cosgrove of Chelmsford MA; Harry and Jane Cullinan of Groton, MA; loving friend Fatima Correia; and many nieces and nephews. In his early years, Dr. Bilionis often helped out at the family produce store. He graduated from Fitchburg High School, earned his college degree from Tufts University, received his dental degree from Temple University and completed the post-graduate program in orthodontics at Tufts School of Dental Medicine. He practiced orthodontics for 38 years in Springfield and Ludlow, MA. Dr Bilionis was heavily involved in local, regional and national dental organizations. He was a member and held leadership positions in the American Association of Orthodontics, Massachusetts Association of Orthodontics, the Tufts Association of Orthodontics, Northeastern Society of Orthodontics, and American College of Dentists. He was a Trustee of the American Dental Association, President of Valley District Dental Society and General Chairman of Yankee Dental Congress. Dr. Bilionis was a founding member and treasurer of the Eastern Dental Insurance Company. In addition, his philanthropic interests led him to be the General Chairman of the Channel 57 Auction Committee and a Chairman of the Pioneer Valley United Fund. Dr. Bilionis celebrated his Greek heritage and was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Luke in East Longmeadow, MA. He played a leadership role in the construction of the church's facilities and cherished the St. Luke's community. Family and friends will gather and remember Dr. Bilionis on Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA. Dr. Bilionis' will lie in state from 10a.m. – 11a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2019 at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Luke, 400 Prospect Street in East Longmeadow, MA. Followed by a Funeral Service at 11a.m.  Burial will conclude in Longmeadow Cemetery in a private service. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke in East Longmeadow, MA or the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA.
