E. Morris (Morrie) Hayn Jr., 87 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the 14th of December 2018. Born June 10, 1931, Morrie was a longtime resident of Wilbraham, MA. He graduated from Technical High School and the Wilbraham Academy College Prep Program. He was also a 1953 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force as First Lieutenant from 1953 - 1955. Morrie retired from MassMutual after more than 35 years, but stayed in touch with his fellow retired coworkers for many years. Giving back is an understatement when it comes to how he served the Wilbraham community. For many years, he was an active member of the Wilbraham United Church, most recently serving on its property commission. He dedicated several decades to the Wilbraham Nature and Cultural Center, developing and maintaining Fountain Park for the entire community to enjoy. He worked tirelessly on every Peach Festival held on the grounds of Fountain Park and was honored as Peach Festival Parade Grand Marshall the final year of the Festival with his wife, Marcie. He served on the board of the Atheneum Society of Wilbraham as treasurer for many years and was instrumental in the restoration of the Old Meeting House. Morrie is remembered as a loving, selfless and patient father, husband, and grandfather. He was an avid gardener and loved to travel with his family. Morrie leaves behind his three daughters, who will forever miss his smile: Deborah Paine-Motyl and her husband Steve of Wilbraham; Wendy O’Rourke and her husband Mike of Wells, Maine; Susan Parker and her former husband Keith of Wilbraham. He also leaves six grandchildren: Daniel O’Rourke of Dallas, Texas; Jeremy Paine and his wife Lyla of Wilbraham; Kevin O’Rourke of Sherman Oaks, CA; Sarah Parker of Springfield, MA; Alyssa Motyl of Springfield, MA, and Kristine Parker of Sherman Oaks, CA; and two great-grandchildren, the light of his life: Mason and Tyler Paine of Wilbraham. He also leaves his current wife of nearly 14 years, Marcie D. Hayn, and her family. Morrie was predeceased by his first wife of 48 years, Diana Ross Hayn, and his parents, Ernest Morris Hayn and Dorothy Hallock Hayn. A Memorial Service and Military Honors will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Wilbraham United Church, 500 Main Street, in Wilbraham. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church and all are welcome. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
