Elba I. (Vila) Figueroa, 81, of Springfield, passed away on January 9, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center. Elba was born in Comerio, Puerto Rico, on June 30, 1941, the daughter of the late Santos Vila and Josefa Luna. She stayed in touch with her entire family, had a great sense of humor and gave everybody she encountered a nickname. Elba made an impact at every occasion she attended as well as every place she visited. She is survived by her beloved and longtime partner, Efrain Torres of Comerio, Puerto Rico, and leaves two devoted sons, Jose “Nuni” Figueroa and Joshua (Bebo) De'Souza of Springfield; and leaves a large extended family both here in Springfield and in Puerto Rico including eight brothers, Santos Vila Jr., Wilberto (Wil) Vila, Migdalia (Cuca) Vila, Hermes (Danielito) Vila, Wilson Vila, Yolanda Vila, Emerson Vila and Gilson Vila; along with her extended/daughters and sons, Elba Janet Vila, Josephine (Jossy) Vila, Migdalia Rivera, Xiomara Rivera, and Jonathan Rivera; eleven grandchildren, Tito, Kayla, Bobby, Unica, Justin, Jeannie, Joshia, Jadel, Jozel, Jonah, and Relena. Elba is predeceased by five siblings, Auria Vila, Hilda Vila, Angel A. Vila, Daniel Vila, Nelson Vila. Family and friends will gather and remember Elba on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, with a prayer service beginning at 12:30 PM. Burial will be private.
