Eleanor Barbara (Deane) Martin, 89, of Springfield, died early Wednesday morning, March 8, 2023 in the comfort of her home. She was born and educated in Springfield, a daughter of the late John P. and Mary E. (Vogel) Deane. She leaves four children, Deborah Martin, Russell E. Martin Jr., Ruth E. Rodrigues and Shawn A Martin; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. Eleanor was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts where she married and started her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Eleanor’s journey was to be a caretaker. Over her 89 beautiful years, she not only raised her 4 children but helped with the care of many family members. Eleanor was known for her low key demeanor and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor. She enjoyed family events; summers at Lake Thompson in Palmer; swimming; sewing; bowling; and QVC shopping. Eleanor also enjoyed gracing those she loved with her singing of Happy Birthday whether in person; over the phone; or on your voicemail! If you received a present wrapped in the Sunday funny paper, you knew immediately it came from her! While she will be missed, her memory and presence will live on in all who loved her! A calling hour will be held on Monday, March 13th from 10 – 11 AM, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Mary Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd., Springfield. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., Springfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eleanor’s name may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
