Frances C. (Monzillo) Capone

February 5, 1941 ~ May 7, 2022 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

With heavy hearts, the Capone family announces the passing of their beloved mother and Noni, Frances C. “Franny” (Monzillo) Capone on Saturday, May 7, 2022, in the comfort of her home. She lost her ten-year battle from a rare neurological disease (PSP) which ultimately stripped her of performing all daily activities. Franny was a fighter, strong until the end. She refused to give in to this disease always choosing to battle another day. If Franny gave you a thumbs up and a smile, you were having a pretty good day. Her genuine smile, kindness, warmth, and love of people made Franny beautiful inside and out. From her early days of working on tobacco fields, she developed an excellent work ethic, never complaining, always willing to learn and help. She was born and educated in Springfield, a daughter of the late Frank and Angelina (Biagetti) Monzillo and graduated from Commerce High School and STCC. Fran spent twenty-five years at Baystate Medical in Administration and worked as a substitute teacher in her retirement years. Determined, organized and smart; if you needed a project completed, delegate it to Franny. We will always remember our mom taking care of us, cooking, decorating the house for every holiday. She always made everyone feel welcome. If you were invited or popped in for dinner, you had leftovers to take home. Some of her favorite activities with her beloved husband Sonny of 50 years were playing cards, shopping for department 56, going to breakfast, vacations in Rhode Island, and most of all being with her children and grandkids. As difficult it is for our family to lose our mom, we find great comfort in knowing she is once again with our dad, Stephen “Sonny” Capone who died in 2009. Together they are gallivanting around town, smiling together again! She leaves her four loving children, Susan LaFond (David) of West Springfield, Sherri Capone of Longmeadow, Paul Capone (Denise) of West Springfield, and Karen Barrett (Peter) of Longmeadow; eight grandchildren, Meredith, Jacob, Stephen, Kevin, Courtney, Maria, Michael, and Christina; her niece, Kristie Mullins (Terry) and nephew, Robert Donavan (Cecily), cousin, Stephen Capone (Loretta). We would like to give thanks to the team at Baystate Hospice for their dedicated care of our mother, especially, her best pal Ruby. Mom would not have been able to stay comfortable and safe in her home for the past five years without all the help of her caregiver’s, especially Grace who was with her in her final days. Besides her parents and husband, Franny was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Mary Donovan in 2020. Relatives and friends are welcome to call on Thursday morning, May 12th from 9:00 -10:30 AM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:15 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 1900 Allen Street, with a private committal service at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum, all in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Franny’s name may be directed to CurePSP, 1216 Broadway, 2nd Floor, NY, NY 10001.
