Gerard P. Roy Jr.

Gerard P. Roy, Jr, 70, of Belchertown, passed away on Saturday, March 11th at home with his family. Gerard was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on March 8th, 1953, the son of the late Gerard P. Roy, Sr., & Muriel Roy. Gerard was a graduate of East Longmeadow High School, class of 1971 and a graduate of Springfield Technical Community College.  He worked in IT at Baystate Medical Center for 32 years. He was a movie buff, loved sports, especially watching his favorite teams, the Cleveland Indians and the Browns.  He enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.  In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved wife Susan (Berthiaume) Roy in 2016 and brother in law David Leonard. Gerard is survived by his two loving children, Matthew Roy and his significant other Kaylyn of Springfield and Michelle Albert and her husband Tamas of Windsor, CT, three adored grandchildren, Lita Roy, Connor Roy and Savannah Albert, a brother Steven Roy and his wife Sandra, two sisters Germain Couture and her husband Gerard and Deborah Blais and her husband Dan.  He is also survived by brother-in-law Mark Berthiaume and wife Betsy and two sisters-in-law Karen Witherell and her husband David, and Lisa Leonard. Family and friends will gather at 8:45a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, Followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10a.m. in  Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Rd, Springfield, MA 01118. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 5-7p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorial contribution can be made in Gerard’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
