Tribute

Herbert “Bert” K. Buffington, 86, a lifelong resident of East Longmeadow, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Bert was born in East Longmeadow on June 29, 1935, the son of the late Dwight and Florence (Kendrick) Buffington. He attended Springfield Technical High School. Bert proudly served our country in the United States Army. He worked as a carpenter for local 336 and retired after forty-five years of service. He loved race cars, drag racing and enjoyed restoring his 1933 Plymouth which won him many awards. Bert also loved going to the gym and having coffee with his friends at Dunkin Donuts after his daily walk on the rail trail. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by a brother Charles Buffington, and two sisters Jeanette Martin and Marion Mallette. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-two years Shirley M. (Yanus) Buffington of East Longmeadow, two devoted daughters Shirlene Bolduc and her husband Roland of East Longmeadow and Kris Buffington-Christie and her husband William of East Longmeadow, three cherished grandchildren Katelin Hamer and her husband Jeffery, Tayler Bolduc and Alexander Provoda., He leaves two adored great-grandchildren Charles and Clara. Family and friends will gather and remember Bert on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 8:30am-10a.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield. Followed by a Funeral Home Service at 10a.m. Burial and military honors will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or to Massachusetts Alzheimers Disease Research Center (madrc.org)
