August 25, 1937 ~ April 12, 2019 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Hettie "Mae" Lepowe passed away peacefully on Friday evening, April 12, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mae was born and raised in Newfoundland, Canada. In 1958 at the age of 21, she was swept off her feet by an American soldier named Donald Lepowe who was stationed in Newfoundland during his time in the Army. They would return to the US and remain a devoted couple for the next 60 years. They settled in Springfield, MA where they raised their two daughters. Mae had many interests and talents. She was beautiful and graceful. She held a degree in accounting, she was an artist, a poetry, literature, and history scholar, and had traveled the world. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and playing mah-jongg with friends. Her greatest joy was the role of mother and grandmother to her 7 grandchildren, Amelia, Olivia, and Zoe Zoufaly all of Madison, CT and Bennett, Reid, Pierce, and Brooke Leveillee, all of Longmeadow, MA. Aside from her loving husband Donald, she leaves behind two devoted daughters, Robyn and Cynthia and their husbands Dennis and Bret, both of whom were like sons to her. She was able to watch her grandchildren grow to be accomplished young adults in which she played an important role in all of their lives. They will always hold a special place in their hearts for her. Mae will be missed dearly by her family as she was a vibrant, warm, and loving person in all of their lives. We are grateful to have had so many wonderful family times together. The family will be holding a private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers if desired, donations may be made in Mae’s memory to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, 88 Pine Street, Suite 2400, NY, NY, 10005.  Arrangements entrusted to the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA, 01118.
