Hilda Laurraine Shand, 64, a resident of Wilbraham and former longtime resident of Springfield, died early Monday evening, July 30, 2018 at Redstone of East Longmeadow. She was born and educated in Springfield, the daughter of the late Leonard Shand, Sr. and Garrie Mae (Jones) Shand and was a graduate of Classical High School Class of 1972. Hilda continued her pursuit of a higher education receiving her undergraduate degree in education from the University of Massachusetts Boston Campus and her Master’s degree from Northeastern University. She began her teaching career in the Springfield School system which spanned over 38 years from which she retired from Springfield High School in 2012. Hilda was a member of the Springfield Teachers Association and the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and an active member of the Indian Orchard Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses’ in Ludlow. She also loved to shop when given the opportunity with her family and friends. Hilda is survived by her three loving sisters, Doris Griffith, Barbara Smith and Jacqueline Shand all of Springfield; two brothers, Leonard Shand, Jr. of Randolph, MA and Laureston Shand of Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews and host of family and friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister Theresa Shand in 2016. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday evening, August 9th from 5-8 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, in Springfield. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, August 11th at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses’, 157 Fuller Street in Ludlow. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield.
