Janet M. Maurice

September 26, 1935 ~ September 30, 2021 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Tribute

Janet Mae “Jan” (Brinn) Maurice, 86, was born in Springfield, MA, a daughter of the late Marion (Carpenter) and Norman Brinn of Landaff, NH and Wilder, Vermont respectively. She graduated from Technical High School and attended Bay Path Jr. College in Longmeadow. Jan lived in Ludlow, MA for 35 years before retiring to Springfield. She was a long-time member of East Church Congregational and the East Springfield branch of the Golden Agers where she served as secretary. Jan retired from Baystate Medical Center as a Nursing Assistant and Ward Secretary. She also worked many years for J C Penney Company at the Eastfield Mall. When she was younger, Gramma Jan was always busy crocheting an afghan for the kids or planning the next family adventure. Janet enjoyed travel, including trips to Maine, the Caribbean, and Disney with her family. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ireland. In her later years, Jan loved celebrating all special events at Olive Garden restaurant and talking on the phone to the kids. Janet was devoted to her two daughters, Diane and Patty, their husbands Scott and Tom, and to her wonderful grandchildren: Carrie, David, Timothy and his wife Sarah, and Kathleen and her fiancée Joe. She liked to write poetry and surprised her daughters with the following handwritten poem that was tucked in with “the papers to keep safe until I pass”.

Do not despair if I’m not aware

Of the difference between an apple and pear.

In the past when I was young and fair

I was always ready to take a dare.

But as time goes on with family cares

I settled down – said goodbye to flairs.

Now if I’m not sure who you are or your name

Rest Assured I love you all the same.  Mom

Dearest Mom and Gram, you will be so greatly missed.

Family and friends are welcome to her memorial service on Friday, October 8th at 11:00 AM held at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, followed by burial at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, both in Springfield.
