Joan Richers Corkum, 85, of Hampden, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born in Danvers, MA., on December 27, 1931, the daughter of the late Beverly and Lillian (McCurdy) Cail. Joan was educated in the Danvers School system. She also graduated from the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing. Joan was in the first graduating class for the Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Massachusetts. She retired after many years of service from Springfield Technical Community College. Joan had a love for animals and gardening, but most of all she treasured time spent with her loving family. In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her former husband Gardiner Richers in 1986, and four brothers Don, Max, Bob and Bruce and five sisters Hilda, Rae, Shirley and Lois and Peggy. Joan is survived by her beloved husband Harold Corkum of Hampden. Joan and Harold were High School sweethearts and after forty years were reunited. Joan is also survived by three devoted children, Gregg Richers and his wife Nida of East Longmeadow, Pamela Richers of Land O’ Lakes, FL., and Lisa Dargie of Ludlow and her former husband Matthew Dargie of Wilbraham, and a stepson Christopher Corkum of Salem, MA., and a sister Beverly Martin of Fort Bragg, CA.. She also leaves six cherished grandchildren Nichole Lukas, Erin Cigich and her husband Rich, Alyse Bynaker and her husband David, Bryce O’ Grady, Brendan O’ Grady and Sydney Dargie; two great- grandchildren Charlotte and Lila; numerous nieces and nephews; and she also leaves her cat Bo. The Corkum family would like to express a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Spectrum Hospice and all of their caring staff. Calling hours for Joan will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 form 10a.m.-12noon at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA, 01118, Followed by a Life Celebration Service at 12noon.
