John H. “Jack” Barnard, Jr., 86, passed away late Friday evening, May 31, 2019. He was born and educated in Springfield, a son of the late John H. Barnard, Sr. and Doris (Hathaway) Barnard and was a 1950 graduate of Springfield Technical High School. He served in the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division in Korea as an ambulance driver. Jack returned home in 1954 and worked as an ambulance orderly for Springfield Municipal Hospital. He then began a career of 35 years with the United States Postal Service retiring in 1992. Jack was a lifetime member of the Springfield Lodge of Elks # 61 and enjoyed the company of his many friends during mornings at Murphy’s and the Wednesday Night Social Club. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Jeannette R. (Archambault) Barnard and leaves two loving children, Darlene W. Peich and her husband David of Southampton; and John D. Barnard of Springfield; his twin grandchildren, Hailey and Tyler Peich; his brother, Roger Barnard and his wife Dorothy of PA; his sister, Joan Murphy of Springfield; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Barnard of Longmeadow; his godson, Donald “DJ” Barnard; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents John was predeceased by his brothers, Richard Barnard and his wife Catherine and his best friend Donald Barnard; his sister, Barbara Larkin and her husband Jack. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 5th at 11:00 AM from the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, with burial and Military Honors to conclude at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, both in Springfield.
