John J. Herring, 73, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died late Sunday morning, April 19, 2020 at Sixteen Acres Health Care Center of Springfield. He was born and educated in Springfield, a son of the late Herbert and Verne (Seidel) Herring. John was employed for many years as a laborer in the construction industry for the former Concord Steel Company primarily in erecting steel buildings in the Greater Springfield area. Some of his favorite pastimes included camping, playing billiards, and watching NASCAR events. He was the beloved husband of the late Constance B. (Larivere) Herring who died on April 13, 1989 and leaves two loving sons, Timothy C. Herring of Chicopee and Dennis A. Herring of Springfield; his brother, Ronnie Herring of Kentucky; his sister, Vern Davis along with her husband Dave of Indiana; two grandsons, Nathan and Ryan; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his daughter Darlene Herring in February of 2004. A private graveside service and burial due to the Governor’s numeric limitations for gatherings will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Tinkham Road, in Springfield.
