John M. Joniec Jr., 83 of East Longmeadow, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 7, 2020 surrounded by loving family and friends. He was educated in Holyoke, a son of the late John and Eleanor (Kane) Joniec. John previously was employed with the Holyoke Savings Bank, Holyoke Auto Parts, and formerly owned Francie’s Tavern in Holyoke and Sunwest Beach Motel in Clearwater, FL. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, avid golfer and enjoyed bowling over the years, and resided in East Longmeadow for the past 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Brownhill) Joniec; his sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Norbert Mandeville; his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Frances Joniec; and his son, Michael Joniec and his loving four legged sheltie companion, Trixie. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Barthelette of Granby; a son, William (Kim) of South Hadley; his sister-in-law and care taker, Norma Joniec of Feeding Hills; four grandsons, Ryan Barthelette of Granby, William Jr., of South Hadley, and Raymond and Ric Joniec of Belchertown; his nieces and nephews, Cheryll (Chuck) Schampier, Lynne (Bill) Gino, Kevin (Nicole) Mandeville, Kimberly (Frank Carey IV) Mandeville, Joanne (Bob) Fontaine, Jeffrey (Gina) Joniec and Brian Joniec; his grandnieces and grandnephews, Jennifer and Noah Eslick, Kelly (Aaron) Denny, Kevin C. Mandeville, Jennifer, Jack and Acadia Joniec; his loving sheltie companion and best friend Sadie; Lisa Bricault and Tyler Kutt, and his care taker and friends, Sarah Gomes and Quinn O’Donnell. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 1900 Allen Street, with Rites of Committal and burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, both in Springfield. At his family’s request there will be no calling hours. John asked for one last and special request that anyone kindly attending his Mass of Christian Burial, to please dress casually and be comfortable. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be directed to St. Patrick’s Church Building Fund, 1900 Allen Street, Springfield MA 01118. Arrangements are by the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1858 Allen St., in Springfield.
