John "Jack" Hughes

John “Jack” Hughes, 91, a longtime resident of East Longmeadow, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born in Syracuse, NY, on November 23, 1929, the son of the late Bernard A. and Mary C. (Hannon) Hughes, and attended Cathedral High School. Jack began his career working at Bradley International Airport as an aeronautics mechanic for many years. He later shared his passion of auto repair by teaching in the CT vocational school system. More recently, Jack retired as a well-known self-employed mechanic in the Greater Springfield area. He could always be found enjoying lunch with friends, tending to his garden or hanging out in his garage. Jack received the VIP of the year award in 2019, from the State of Connecticut Department of Correction for his dedication in volunteering services and willingness to share his resources with the agency and community.  He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his two brothers, James and William Hughes; four sisters, Eileen Romanko, Jane Cooley, Joan Deroche and Lois Pratt; and two grandchildren, Ashley deBlok and Nick Accorsi. Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Priscilla N. (LeVasseur) Hughes of East Longmeadow; and leaves five devoted children, James Hughes and his wife Louise of Hampden, John Hughes and his wife Cindy of West Springfield, Phyllis Accorsi of Ludlow, Lisa Kraus and her husband David of Southwick and Kelly McMahon and her fiancé, Brian Lefort of Hampden; eleven grandchildren, Sara, Nick, Courtney, Joshua, Adam, Emily, Anthony, Hannah, Daniel, Steven and Lindsay and nine great-grandchildren. Jack also was a dear friend of Bill W. for many years. Family and friends will gather and remember Jack on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 4-7p.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Theresa section of St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield.
