Tribute

Kenneth J. O’Connor, 76, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by love. Ken was born in Springfield on June 16, 1941, the son of the late Francis and Pearl (Kennedy) O’ Connor. Ken spent part of his childhood at Brightside, an orphanage run by the Sisters of Providence, in West Springfield. Ken owned Ken’s Oil in Chicopee for many years. He also owned and operated Kens Parking at Dwight and Taylor Street in Springfield. Ken was known for his charitable works and support of the city's gay community. Ken supported many charitable organizations including The AIDS Foundation of Western Massachusetts, Rays of Hope, March of Dimes, Coats for Kids, the children at the New North Citizens Counsel and many others. Ken focused his last 15 years as a dedicated Legion member of the Moose Lodge 1849 in Chicopee working on behalf of the Moose Charities and the Children at Mooseheart, a child city and school in Illinois. Ken was also a past officer and Life member at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 148 in Springfield as well as a member of the Tigers Athletic Club in Chicopee. Ken is survived by his partner in life, Wayne Davis of Springfield, a sister Linda Gaboury of Springfield and a brother William O’Connor of Springfield. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by three brothers Francis, Robert and Ronald O’ Connor. Family and friends will gather and remember Ken at A Life Celebration Service on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11a.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA, 01118.
