Tribute

LaVerne Aylene Larson was born April 5, 1926 to Rev. Elmer and Gladys (Strom) Larson in South Dakota.  She died peacefully in Cromwell, CT at Pilgrim Manor Care Center at Covenant Living of Cromwell on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the age of 94.  She was laid to rest next to her husband at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield, MA. LaVerne lived in Kansas, Buffalo, New York, and Minneapolis, MN where her father served the local Covenant churches as pastor and later as Superintendent of the Northwest Covenant Conference.  She graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 1943 and from North Park Junior College in the class of 1947.   She married Kenneth Larson at Bethany Covenant Church in Minneapolis, MN on August 27, 1948.  They made their home in Springfield, MA.  LaVerne would later return to school at Western New England College graduating in 1980 with her bachelor’s degree in business administration.  At the time of her retirement she was the Assistant to the Vice-President of Human Resources at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. LaVerne and Ken both loved and served their Lord Jesus and this was demonstrated by their hospitality and warm welcome whether in their home, church or at work. They were both enthusiastic supporters of the Evangelical Covenant Church and of North Park University and Seminary.  They loved camping at Pilgrim Pines in Swanzey, NH where they could be counted on to help on workdays. LaVerne was most at home in her kitchen where she delighted in providing meals for family and friends as well as baking Swedish rye bread and coffee rings for fellow coworkers at Christmas.  Her family and friends will forever remember her generosity and the way she tirelessly cared and prayed for those in need. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, in-laws Oscar and Thora Larson, sister-in-law Jean Larson, sister-in-law Betty Ann Glasgow and brother-in-law Theodore Glasgow.
