Leon G. Blais, 101, of Springfield passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Wingate of East Longmeadow. He was born in Fitchburg, MA on December 20, 1916 to the late Joseph and Amanda (Toussignant) Blais. Leon served in the United States Army and was stationed in Winooski Park, VT. He worked for Indian Motorcycle, Westinghouse and 41 years at American Bosch as a process engineer and supervisor. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church and for over 30 years sang in the choir. Leon was an avid candlepin bowler and won a gold medal at the State Senior Olympics. He was an overall easy to like nice guy and had a great sense of humor. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Cecile (St. Germain) Blais and nine siblings. Leon leaves his loving sons, Donald G. Blais and his wife Patricia of Clifton Park, NY and William L. Blais and his partner Nancy Britt of Springfield; his sister Cecile St. Germain of Ludlow; four grandchildren, Michelle M. Dalkas and her husband Mike of Belchertown, Donald G. Blais Jr. and his wife Jennifer Blais of West Sand Lake, NY, Sherry Fell and her husband Glenn of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Darren F. Blais and his wife Karen of Austin, TX; and six great-grandchildren, Paxton, Bailey, Ethan, Grayson, Leon, and Emelia. Funeral services for Leon will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 starting at 9am at Byron Keenan Funeral Home, 1858 Allen St, Springfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10am in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church. Rites of Committal will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4-7pm.
