Margaret E. MacDonald
August 10, 1940 ~ December 1, 2020 (age 80) 80 Years Old
SPRINGFIELD – Margaret E. (Smith) MacDonald, 80, passed away on December 1, 2020. Margaret was born in Ludlow, MA on August 10, 1940 to the late Roy and Margaret (Parnell) Smith. She was locally educated, and later went on to work as a cook for the Springfield Public School Systems for over 30 years before her retirement. Margaret was a longtime member of Springfield Wesleyan Methodist Church, and participated as a Sunday School Teacher as well as bringing her culinary talents to the Saturday Soup Kitchen. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, but most importantly preparing meals to bring her family together. To cherish her memory she leaves her husband of sixty years Malcolm D. MacDonald, her beloved children Scott D. MacDonald and his wife Louise of Springfield and Kimberly Emirzian and her husband Cary of Ludlow, as well as her beloved granddaughters Kara and Caity Emirzian of Ludlow and her step-granddaughter Amanda Schirmer and her husband Jacob of Milton, DE. She is predeceased by her sister Linda Rodriquez and survived by her sister Betty Murdock and her husband Rodney and brother-in-law Michael Rodriquez, all of Springfield. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law Jill Lipsey and her husband Jack of Millers Falls, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, December 7, from 4PM-6PM at Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., Springfield. A funeral home service will take place on Tuesday, December 8, at 11AM with burial to follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Springfield. Due to COVID-19, guests are asked to practice social distancing and masks will be required. Donations in Margaret’s honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
