Margaret “Peg” Mary (O’Sullivan) McGee, 89, of Longmeadow, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 28, 2019. She was born and raised in Cork, Ireland, enjoying life with her family and friends. It was always her dream to visit America which she did in 1957. Here Margaret met and married Robert McGee and settled in Longmeadow, MA.
She was a talented seamstress, having worked in both Ireland and locally in Springfield. She continued to sew as a hobby throughout her life. Margaret was a wonderful cook and enjoyed sharing Irish favorites at family gatherings. Every St. Patrick’s Day she would bake dozens of loaves of Irish soda bread for neighbors and friends.
Margaret was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her greatest love was spending time with her family during holidays, vacations and numerous trips. She was such a fixture at family sporting events that their friends and teammates called her “Mom” and “Nana” as well. Margaret was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and she enjoyed a ritual of spending many mornings at daily mass followed by coffee at Friendly’s with friends.
She was a daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret Mary (O’Shea) O’Sullivan. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Robert McGee; her son-in-law, Richard Schafer; brothers, Donal and Sean O’Sullivan; and her two sisters, Joan Humphreys and Noreen McGrath. She leaves her four children, John McGee of Pleasant Hill, CA, Daniel McGee and his wife Jill of Dartmouth, MA, Maura Hinners and her husband Jeff of Littleton, CO, and Patricia Schafer of Longmeadow, her six grandchildren, Erin and Andrew Hinners, Philip and Kristina Schafer, and Shea and Kayla McGee; and many nieces and nephews.
