Margaret P. Walz (89) passed peacefully on March 28, 2021 at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center.  Born in Brooklyn, New York, of German immigrant parents, Hermann and Pauline Heilig, Marge graduated from Bay Ridge High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from New York University.  She continued her education at Hunter College, in New York City, with graduate classes in Elementary Education.  Married in 1957, at the St. Jacobi Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, NY, she moved first to Connecticut, then Massachusetts with her husband Eugene and taught school in Glastonbury, CT, West Springfield, MA and East Longmeadow where she settled and raised her family. Marge was a long-time member of the Bethesda Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran church choirs, as well as the St. Paul Thursday Morning Bible Study Group.  For many years, she attended the Community Bible Study Group, held at the Covenant Church in Springfield.  She was a former member of the Wilbraham Community Chorus.  Marge was a volunteer at Wesson Maternity Hospital for ten years and at the Bay State Medical Center for an additional twelve years. Classical music was a passion in her life.  She and her husband were season ticket holders at the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.  She encouraged her grandchildren to appreciate and explore the joy of music. Margaret is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Eugene H. Walz; two loving sons, Robert and his wife Maryellen of Belchertown, and Richard and his wife Tracey of East Longmeadow. “Gramma” was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Jamison and his wife Janelle, Karin and fiancé Jared and their daughter Soleil, Joseph and his wife Sara and daughter Lyla, Timothy, and Andrew and his fiancée Michaela. Margaret was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Karin Margaret Walz. She will be sadly missed by many.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening, April 1st from 4-6 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home, 1858 Allen St., in Springfield.
