Marilynn A. (Davis) Hughes, 90 of South Windsor, CT, passed away with family by her side on October 2, 2020 at the Fox Hill Center in Vernon, CT. She was born February 12, 1930 in Ballston Spa, NY, the daughter of the late Madeline and James Malcolm.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Hughes in 2006. Marilynn grew up primarily in San Diego, CA, graduating from San Diego High School in 1948. Following high school, she attended San Diego State College and later Louisiana State University. Following college Marilynn worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines. Settling down to raise a family, she and her husband lived in various cities before putting down roots in Southbridge, MA. In addition to raising a family, Marilynn worked various jobs over the years, including proof reader for the Southbridge News, clerk in the admitting department at Harrington Hospital, and a sales associate at both the Public House Gift Shop and the Ethan Allen stores. Marilynn was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts, was an original member of the Southbridge MA Block Mothers and volunteered at local libraries. She is survived by her four children, R. Michael Hughes and his wife Paulette of Las Vegas, NV, Winifred “Missy” Haddad and her husband Dr. Hani of Longmeadow, Richard J. Hughes Jr. and his wife Bernetta of Downingtown, PA, and Christopher “Duffy” Hughes and his wife Karen of Southbury, CT. In 1978 Marilynn’s greatest joy was realized when she became a grandmother for the first time, and going forward became known as “Nanny” to family and friends alike. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Meghan, Ryan, Kate, Shawna, Richard III, Matthew, Brandy, Caitlin, Joseph, Michael, Tyler, Devin, Christine and Marshall; and her 12 great-grandchildren. The Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., Springfield is honored to be handling her arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marilynn’s name may be directed to The American Heart Association.
