Marlene L. (McDonald) Mahoney

Marlene L. (McDonald) Mahoney, 84, a resident of Springfield for most of her life, died early Wednesday evening, October 21, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born and educated in Springfield, a daughter of the late Donald and Helen (McCarthy) McDonald and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. Marlene was employed for over 40 years as an X-Ray technician at Mercy Medical Center and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children from which she retired in the early 2000’s. She was an avid gardener and truly enjoyed the monthly pilgrimages to Foxwood Casino with her devoted husband and best friend of 59 years, Donald M. Mahoney who passed away in June of 2017. She leaves two loving sons, Thomas M. Mahoney of West Springfield, and Daniel T. Mahoney and his wife Jean of Springfield; her brother, Christopher McDonald and his wife Kathleen of Hampden; two sisters, Judith McDonald of Springfield, and Diane Bleau and her husband Richard of Stow, MA; four cherished grandchildren, Marc Mahoney, Meghan Butler and her husband Erik, and Bryan and Scott Mahoney; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Marlene was predeceased by her sister, Gail Wolcott of Shelburne Falls. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday afternoon, October 27th from 4-5 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, followed by a funeral home service beginning at 5:00 PM. Burial will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Instead of flowers contributions in Marlene’s name may be directed to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
