Mary (Leahy) Barbieri, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away on July 2, 2019 in the comfort of her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Springfield on May 16, 1932, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Murphy) Leahy. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and lifelong communicant of that parish. Mary worked as Secretary for Attorney Thomas V. Moriarty from 1950-1952, the Department of the Army from 1952-1954, the Internal Revenue Service from 1954-1965 and Engineering & Sales Associates from 1977-1998 as a purchasing agent in payroll. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Angelo Barbieri in April 2004 and her two sisters, Rita Normand and Abby Griffin. Mary leaves six loving children, Michael Barbieri and his wife Allison of Longmeadow, Maria Rieker and her husband Paul of Agawam, James Barbieri and his wife Paige of Longmeadow, Ann Flayhan and her husband Tom of Longmeadow, Karen Kennedy and her husband William of Wilbraham and Kimberly Manning and her husband Michael of Wilbraham; fourteen cherished grandchildren, Frank, Tony, Conor, Patrick, Grace, Caroline, Erin, Sara, Jack, Emma, Nora, Joseph, Thomas and Isabelle. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 8:30a.m. from the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1858 Allen St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., with burial and Rights of Committal concluding at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State St., all in Springfield.
