Tribute

Mary F. Ryan, 75, a resident of Springfield for most of her life, died early Thursday morning, September 24, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born in Gatesville, TX, a daughter of the late James P. and Mary B. (Noonan) Ryan and was educated in Springfield. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School Class of 1962 and earned her Associates’ Degree from Springfield Technical Community College as a dental hygienist. Mary was employed for over forty years as a hygienist at the office of Dr. Douglas Spink in Longmeadow. As a young woman, Mary enjoyed tennis, golfing and swimming. She taught many of her young relatives and many neighborhood children to swim in her backyard pool. Mary enjoyed creating family videos that now preserve special memories for posterity. She also was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Springfield. Mary leaves her three loving siblings, James P. Ryan and his wife Jane of Town & Country, MO, Ellen J. McManus and her husband John of Attleboro, MA, and Edward J. Ryan and his wife Christine of Castleton, VT; 5 nephews and a niece, James P. Ryan and his wife Catherine of Medford, Andrew Ryan of Taiwan, John McManus and his wife Dr. Shilpa McManus of Westwood, Ryan McManus and his wife Katie of Scituate, Kevin Ryan and his wife Shawnna of Bozeman, MT, and Elizabeth Cassella and her husband John of Castleton, VT; as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews. A private committal service will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and there will be no calling hours. Contributions in her name may be directed to the Sisters of St. Joseph or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
