Mary Margaret (Melancon) Pellerin, 86, a longtime resident of Springfield, died early Wednesday evening, February 26, 2020 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born and educated in Broussard, LA; a daughter of the late Robley and Adrian (Comeaux) Melancon and was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School. Mary moved to Springfield and was employed for many years with the City of Springfield School Department as a Teacher’s Aide at both the Homer Street School and Duggan Middle School. She was an active communicant of St. Michael’s Cathedral, loved to travel, enjoyed crocheting and knitting, and was a fan of the NY Yankees. Mary was the devoted wife of the late Robert Pellerin, Jr who died in 2003. She leaves two loving sons, David R. Pellerin and his wife Gloria of Ludlow, and Donald E. Pellerin of Springfield; two loving daughters, Melinda A. and Karen M. Pellerin both of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew, Veronica, Anthony, Christina, Franklin, and Landon; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her three brothers, Leo, Robert, and George Melancon. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening, March 4th from 4-6 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., in Springfield. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 11:30 AM meeting directly at St. Michael’s Cathedral, 260 State St., Springfield, with Rites of Committal to conclude at 1:00 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., in Agawam.
