Mary C. “Mama” Scott, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday October 17, 2019 at the Wingate of East Longmeadow nursing home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Boston, MA, on January 7, 1930, the daughter of the late John and Cora (Wood) Becker. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, Donald R. Scott, and her younger sister Nancy (Becker) Copitas. Mary’s greatest joy was raising her four children. She loved her large, noisy family, and her home was a welcoming place for friends and neighbors. Mama had many passions, including a love for dance, supporting her daughters and granddaughters at a local dance studio. She loved sewing, knitting, cooking, making her legendary Christmas Cookie platters, and designing and baking beautiful wedding cakes. Mama donated over 8,000 knitted hats for newborns and other people in need. Mama was the founder of Mill Pond Designs and was a published designer of cross-stitch craft patterns and kits. Mary is survived by her four devoted children Judy Milano of East Longmeadow, Jim Scott and his wife Patti of West Springfield, Nancy Rooke of Springfield, and Linda Morrissette and her husband Paul of East Longmeadow. She also leaves ten cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. All services and burial will be private.
