Tribute

Michael G. Dowd, 81, of Wilbraham and Wellfleet, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on the Cape, with his wife by his side on Monday, June 8, 2020. Michael was born in Holyoke, on December 11, 1938, the son of the late Arthur and Agnes (Gahan) Dowd, and was a graduate of the Springfield school system. He proudly served our country with the United States Marine Corps for five years. Returning to civilian life, Michael learned the trade as a bricklayer working with his father and brothers for years.  After he met the love of his life he decided to settle down and became a Springfield Police Officer, and earned his Associates degree. During his 16 years on the force he received 4 accommodations for his acts of heroism and service and was one of the original members of the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad. After leaving the force he spent another 15 years as a US Marshall as well as starting an Investigation agency. He was also a proud member of the Elks. Michael could turn strangers into friends with his natural kind charm and the twinkle in his eye.  He was sincere, funny, generous, and strong, and his love for his family could not be measured. He was so proud of his kids and grandkids and told them at every opportunity. Bobbi, his wife and love of his life were blessed with a beautiful life together.  Always the builder, “Papa” was most proud of the life he built with his wife and children and they will honor his memory forever. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by his two brothers, Arthur and Frank Dowd. Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years of marriage, Roberta (Connor) Dowd of Wilbraham; four devoted children, Michael Dowd II of Wilbraham, Kathleen Dowd-Kosiorek and her husband Mark of Wilbraham, Kerry Tessier and her husband Steven of Ludlow and Mark Dowd and his wife Diana of Norway; 9 cherished grandchildren, Kiernan, Kristen, Tara, Karalyn, Mary, Kate, Eva, Megan and Michael. We love you more than all the stars in the sky and to the moon and back.  “Shepherd's Pie Papa”.  Family and friends will gather and remember Michael on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 from 3-6 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield. Burial and military honors will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Tower Foundation.
