Tribute

Norris D. Ambrose, 62, of Springfield, was called home on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. He was born in Mobile, AL., the son of Maggie (Johnson) Kleckley and the late Paul Wood. Norris is survived by his mother, Maggie (Johnson) Kleckley of Jamaica, NY; his three children, Rashonda Ambrose and her husband, Maleke Black of Gloucester, NJ, Andre Ambrose (Brittany) of Ellington, CT and Alia Ambrose of Marlton, NJ; three grandchildren, Maleke Black, Jr., Mason Black and Peyton Blount; and a special friend, Laura Walter, with whom they cherished many memories with.

Norris was a graduate of Springfield Gardens High School in Queens, NY, Class of 1977. He received an Associate of Science from Post College in Waterbury, CT and then went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Business from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Norris relocated to Springfield, MA with his family in 1991. He worked as a Mail Handler for the US Postal Service in Springfield, MA for over 30 years and was known by his family, friends, and colleagues for his passion to help others. In addition to his full-time job at the Post Office, he worked part-time for a number of years at Stavros, helping those that could not help themselves. Norris was a strategist who was good with numbers and enjoyed the game of chess. He loved basketball. He played in high school, college and the Larry O’Brien league.  He coached his son’s teams and a number of youth leagues and was a passionate critic of the game.

The Family of Norris D. Ambrose wish to acknowledge our sincere appreciation for the many expressions of love, kindness, compassion and prayers during our time of bereavement.

A Private visitation will be held from 1 to 2 PM on Friday, May 6, 2022 with public visitation from 2 to 3 PM at Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA 01118.

Private burial services will be held at a later date.
