Patricia (Ligman) Safford AKA “Miss Pat”, 90, of Hampden, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, surrounded by family. Patricia was born in Tacoma, Washington, on September 16, 1931, the daughter of the late Thomas and Etta (Haskel) Ligman. She had a passion and love for her family, friends and teaching generation after generation of her community to swim. For over 60 years she put her heart and soul into Mercury Swim Institute, and nothing brought her more joy than seeing and teaching all her students to swim. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her beloved husband Donald M. Safford, four brothers Thomas, Richard, Bud and Walter Ligman, two sister’s Kappy Ligman and Juanita Dobbins and grandson Stevie Safford. She is survived by her three devoted children Steve Safford of Palmer, Donald Safford, Jr., of Palm Bay, FL., and Julie Fontaine of Hampden, and she leaves her three cherished grandchildren Bryan Safford, Dylan Fontaine and Katrina Safford and great-grandson Trevor Merceri, and she also leaves many loving nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather and remember Patricia on Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 4-6P.M. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield. A Graveside Service will be on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 10 A.M. in Old Cemetery on Chapin Rd in Hampden. Donation may be made to Shriners Hospital and flowers may be sent to Byron Keenan funeral home.
