Pauline L. (Hayden) Santanello, 96, a longtime resident of East Longmeadow, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a recent resident at Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing Springfield, died early Wednesday morning, May 1, 2019 with her family at her side. She was born in South Worthington, MA a daughter of the late Paul and Eulalia (Coe) Hayden and was a graduate of Westfield High School Class of 1940 and the following year of the former Springfield Academy of Beauty Culture earning her license as a hairdresser. Pauline was employed with various salons in the Greater Springfield area for over fifty-six years retiring in 1998. She was an active longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Springfield and yearly participant of the Relay for Life and Rebecca’s of Trinity Methodist Church, East Longmeadow’s Senior Center, Morning Glory Walkers and Friendship Club and the Springfield Women’s Rod & Gun Club. Pauline especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known for her delicious pies she baked with love for her family, church and friends. Pauline’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Reeds Landing for all the kind and thoughtful care Pauline received during her stay there. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas S. Santanello who died on November 10, 1996 and leaves three loving children, Paula C. May and her husband Douglas and Judy A. Chmura and her husband Thaddeus both of Ludlow, and Thomas C. Santanello and his wife Margaret of Nassau, NY; two sisters, Nellie Robak of Westfield, and Barbara Porter of Worthington; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her siblings Jessie Sorrell, Mae Nimmo, and Charles and Floyd Hayden. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday morning May 8th at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave., with burial to follow at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., both in Springfield. One hour of visitation will precede her funeral at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be directed to Trinity United Church or to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
