Peggy Marie Charles-Davis, Born September 5, 1950, of Springfield, MA died on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center at the age of 72. A lifelong resident of Springfield, she was a graduate of Putnam Vocational High School, and continued her education at Springfield Technical Community College where she received a degree in their Beautician program. Peggy was employed for many years as a Machinist with both the Buxton and Pratt & Whitney Corporations. She later retired from Danaher Tool Group. She was actively involved with the Springfield Senior Citizen Center, after returning back to the classroom earning her certificate in Medical Billing & Coding from STCC. Peggy was born to the late Deacon James Charles Sr., and mother, Irene. She was predeceased by her five siblings; Lucy Charles (Jones), Geraldine Charles (Grimes), Stephen Charles Sr., Rachel Charles (Green), and Elaine Charles (Goodwin), and her grandson, Carter Nkrumah.
Peggy is survived by her four loving children; Verenza I. Davis of New Britain, CT, Virginia I. Davis- Bennefield, and her husband Tracy of Chicopee, Eddie Davis IV of Springfield, and Johnson Nkrumah of Winston Salem, NC; ten siblings, Willie Barker and his wife Eleanor, Kim (Michael) Charles, and his wife Beatrice, Mary Perry (Late Ronald), Patricia Emanuel, and her husband Archie, James Charles, Jr., Beverly Charles-Yearwood and her husband Elroy, Christopher Charles, Gloria Smith, Keith Charles and his wife Melody, and Mark Charles; Nineteen grandchildren; Lamar Thomas and his wife Jaileen, James Thomas Jr., Everon Meadows, Frank Cousin-Meadows, Kasheef Sheppard, Keisha Sheppard, Sredrick Watson, Tah-Rhelle Bennefield, Tynia Bennefield, Tiarah Bennefield, Tyquawn Davis, Alexis Davis-Pimpare, Tyson Davis, Deven Davis, Tyrese Davis, Jahari Nkrumah, Julian Nkrumah, Logan Nkrumah, and August Nkrumah; Eleven great-grandchildren, Tania Thomas, Yis’Rael Thomas, James Thomas, III, Jayla Thomas, LaJada Thomas, Malakhi Rose-Sheppard, Deyonce Sheppard, Nicolas Sheppard, Kaiden Davis, Zyair Davis, and Sredyana Watson, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 with calling hours from 9-11 AM, followed by a Funeral Home Service beginning at 11:00 at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, with burial to conclude at Oak Grove Cemetery, both in Springfield.
